Dunn wins on well-bred colt at Pakenham

Friday 26 June 2015, 5:30pm

Dwayne Dunn held Rewaaya in the highest regard during the mare's racing career and the leading jockey has played his part in guiding one of her progeny to a debut win.

Rising three-year-old Sohool stepped out in a 1380m maiden on Friday at Pakenham and after being urged along coming to the home turn, the colt was able to get home by a length.

Dunn rode the colt's dam Rewaaya in 14 of her 20 starts for four wins including a Group Three Let's Elope Stakes as well as four Group One placings.

Craig Williams rode Rewaaya when the mare notched her Group One win in the 2006 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.

Dunn says Sohool, who is by Street Cry, looks like he wants 2000m.

"His mother was a superstar, she was probably one of the best horses I've ever ridden, and you'd expect probably a little bit more out of her progeny than what we've seen," Dunn told told Racing Live.

The David Hayes and Tom Dabernig training partnership also produced well-bred colt Wind Force to win at the same track last Friday with Dunn aboard.

Wind Force, a half-brother to Group One winners Niconero and Nicconi by Fastnet Rock, won his maiden impressively by four lengths.
