Bjorn Baker mare withdrawn from Gr 1 Tiara

Saturday 20 June 2015, 3:57pm

Sydney mare Diademe was scratched from the Group One Tattersall's Tiara on Saturday after stewards found five bottles of unknown liquid in the stables where she was staying.

Racing Queensland stewards John Hackett and Norm Torpey visited the Gold Coast stables of trainer Alicia Willick where Diademe, who is trained by Bjorn Baker, had been staying this week.

They found five bottles - four of which were labelled "Kentucky Green".

The fifth bottle was unmarked and there were also syringes found near Diademe's box.

Steward Ian Brown said Hackett and Torpey spoke with stablehand Glenn Lobb who was with the horse and told them he had brought the bottles for Willick.

Brown said, however, Willick had denied any knowledge of the bottles.

He said stewards were unaware of the identity of a liquid called "Kentucky Green".

The bottles were taken for testing and blood samples were taken from Diademe.

"Stewards opened an inquiry which was then adjourned until the results of the tests are returned," Brown said.

"Stewards felt, because of the unknown liquid and the fact Lobb's story could not be collaborated, that Diademe should be scratched," Brown said.
