Voilier does not appear in the latest Golden Slipper order of entry but that could soon change.
The Gary Nickson-trained two-year-old runs in Saturday's Silver Slipper (1100m) at Rosehill and his performance will determine his autumn path.
His owner Steve Vardy will have to pay $150,000 to put him in next month's Golden Slipper as a late entry if he and Nickson decide to tackle the $3.5 million race.
"After Saturday we will know where we are going," Nickson said.
"It is probably the race which determines whether he heads to the Slipper.
"If he goes well he will go to the Todman Stakes and the Slipper. The other option is the Pago Pago Stakes and the Sires' Produce Stakes."
A debut winner at Rosehill on December 6, the son of Beneteau won a barrier trial on his home track, Warwick Farm, last week.
"Tye Angland rode him in the trial and got off and said he would ride him in the Silver Slipper," Nickson said.
"He had a few options and he chose him which I hope is a guide."
Voilier was among 10 entries taken on Monday for the Group Two Silver Slipper.
Five of the top 10 in Golden Slipper markets, including the favourite Vancouver, are among the nominations.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained colt is at $6 ahead of Blue Diamond favourite Fontiton and Godolphin's Ottoman at $8.
Ottoman will be joined by her stablemate Holler in the Silver Slipper with the latter at $15 for the big race in March.
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Paceman and Headwater from the Hawkes team are the others high in Golden Slipper betting.
But Nickson, who has 15 horses in work, is confident he has the horse to take on the big stables.
"He was a handful as a colt but as a gelding he is great to work with," he said.
"He is a lovely, sensible horse. I've got seven by Beneteau and they are all big and strong."
Beneteau, who left just two crops before his premature death from a neurological condition in January 2013, leads the first season's sires list.
