Doncaster Mile contender Rudy will have a jump-out on his home track at the Gold Coast in preparation for a return to Sydney.
Trained by Helen Page, Rudy earned a guaranteed start in the $3 million Doncaster (1600m) in April 4 with his win in the Villiers Stakes over the course and distance in December.
Page has pinpointed the Group Three Liverpool City Cup (1300m) at Warwick Farm on February 28 as Rudy's first run back since the Villiers.
Rudy is then likely to press on to the Group Two Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on March 14 before the Doncaster.
"It is nice to be already in the Doncaster field so we don't have to rush things," Page said.
"Rudy has come back an even nicer horse and we are hoping he can measure up to Group One company."
She said Rudy would probably have a jump-out to tighten him up on Tuesday morning.
"That is the plan at this stage weather permitting," she said.
Rudy has had one attempt in Group One company finishing near last in the Queensland Derby last year.
In that race, Hugh Bowman was forced to lead on Rudy who usually races back in the field.
The past four Doncasters have been run on rain-affected tracks, something which would suit Rudy who has won five of seven on soft or heavy ground including the Villiers.
"He is just as good on dry tracks. It is just that many others don't handle heavy going," Page said.
Rudy is a $26 chance in early markets for the Doncaster with Japanese horse World Ace the clear $6 favourite.
Sacred Falls, winner of the past two Doncasters, is among a group on the second line at $11.
Cox Plate winner Adelaide is in that group as is Saturday's C F Orr Stakes winner Dissident.
