SYDNEY, Feb 9 AAP - The Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Doncaster Mile, centrepiece Group One races during The Championships, have attracted increased entries for this year's editions.

When nominations closed on Monday for the two signature days of autumn racing at Randwick, 120 horses were entered for the $4 million Queen Elizabeth.

It represents an increase of eight on the 2014 entry while nominations for the $3 million Doncaster Mile up from 128 to 139.

Racing NSW received 1221 nominations for the 10 races selected to form The Championships with overseas entries coming from England, Hong Kong, Japan and New Zealand.

"The Championships have gained international recognition very quickly and were pleased to see a number of overseas nominations," Racing NSW chief executive Peter V'landys said.

"The nominations are strong for every race and it's notable there is an increase in nominations for two of the marquee races, the Queen Elizabeth and the Doncaster Mile."

The $2 million ATC Australian Derby received 109 entries while 120 fillies have been nominated for the ATC Australian Oaks.

Ninety-one stayers, including England's three-time Melbourne Cup runner Red Cadeaux, have been entered for the Sydney Cup.

Red Cadeaux is also entered for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

"The strength of these nominations shows that The Championships are being embraced by Australian and overseas connections," the Australian Turf Club's Matt Rudolph said.

Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller underlined the strength of his stable with 17 entries for the Queen Elizabeth.

Among a stable of stars, his Queen Elizabeth team includes the Cox Plate winner Adelaide and the three-year-old Preferment.

Aside from Red Cadeaux, other prominent overseas entries include the Hong Kong-trained Dominant for John Moore and Japanese-trained duo To The World and Tosen Stardom.

Godolphin trainer John O'Shea has eight Queen Elizabeth entries including the stable's most recent overseas imports Hartnell and It's Somewhat.

"They are both nice horses," Godolphin racing manager Jason Walsh said.

"The team in Europe tell us they have the turn of foot and speed to be effective at a mile, a mile and a quarter."

Hartnell won a 1200-metre barrier trial at Warwick Farm on Monday morning with It's Somewhat running fourth in his 800-metre heat.
