Dissident back for autumn campaign

Sunday 28 December 2014, 2:54pm

Dissident has returned to trainer Peter Moody's stable preparing for his final campaign before he goes to stud.

The three time Group One winner has not raced since he suffered a bleeding attack when sixth behind Fawkner in the Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on October 11.

The winner of the Group One Randwick Guineas in the autumn along with the Memsie Stakes and the Makybe Diva Stakes in the spring, Dissident will be aimed at Group One sprints this preparation.

Moody has picked out the C F Orr Stakes and the Futurity Stakes as ideal targets for the four-year-old who will stand at Newgate Garm in the spring.

Both the Orr and the Futurity are over 1400m at Caulfield, the same course and distance as the Memsie.

Moody said Dissident had spelled well but any signs of the bleeding attack that put an end to his spring would mean immediate retirement.

"We'll just let his form dictate to us when he's right to race but the Orr and the Futurity look logical races for him," Moody said.

"He's coming back from a bleeding attack and if he shows us any signs that that may happen again, then we'll stop him.

"And if I didn't think he was in the right frame of mind being a colt then I wouldn't hesitate to retire him, but at this stage we'll be aiming him at those races."

Moody said Dissident had enjoyed a good break and was coming along steadily in the build up to his autumn campaign.

In 17 career starts which have netted five wins, Dissident has raced exclusively in black-type company following a winning debut in the Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Caulfield on Australia Day, 2013.
