Daniel Griffin to appeal suspension

Sunday 28 December 2014, 2:28pm

Comeback jockey Daniel Griffin is set to appeal a seven meeting suspension which would rule him out of Magic Millions day.

"We have five days to appeal but he would obviously like to ride Mywayorthehighway in the Magic Millions Guineas," Griffin's manager Alan Cowie said.

The winner of six Gold Coast premierships, Griffin has been in superb form since returning last month from three operations on his left knee which he injured in November 2012.

The most important win so far in his comeback came on Saturday when Mywayorthehighway caused an upset in the Vo Rogue Plate at the Gold Coast.

Mywayorthehighway is the last horse chosen by the late race caller Wayne Wilson and is trained by Wilson's great mate Mick Mair who is recovering from a recent stroke.

It was Griffin's ride on the three-year-old which attracted the attention of stewards who found him guilty of letting Mywayorthehighway shift out near the 50m when not clear of Tales of Fashion.

As it stands, Griffin's ban keeps him out from December 31 until January 11, a day after the Magic Millions meeting.

Mywayorthehighway, who started at $81 in the Vo Rogue, is now a $17 chance for the $1 million Magic Millions Guineas.

Hijack Hussy, who got a long way back in the Vo Rogue before rattling home for a close second, remains the $3.40 favourite for the Guineas.
