Ipswich double continues Dunn's momentum

Wednesday 29 October 2014, 5:44pm

Trainer Matt Dunn has continued to put his slow start to the season behind him with a winning double at Ipswich on Wednesday.

Dunn trained 106 winners last racing term including 56 in the city and finished second to Tony Gollan in the Brisbane trainers' premiership.

His double with Lucky Lucre and Carton at Ipswich moved him into sixth place in this season's title race with six wins but he is still well behind leaders Gollan and Rob Heathcote.

However, Dunn has many of his better horses back in training and has produced six winners at all tracks in the past 11 days.

Dunn's most impressive winner on Wednesday was Carton ($2.80) who scored by 5-1/4 lengths in the Bundaberg Rum Plate (1350m).

Dunn wasn't at Ipswich but his wife and stable representative Keira Dunn said things were starting to come together for the stable.

"Matt decided to put blinkers on Carton today and he ran second at his only other start behind one we were told is pretty smart," she said.

Anthony Allen picked up a consolation win from trainer Steve Tregea when favourite Ready Reply ($1.85) took out the XXXX Good As Gold Plate (1350m).

Allen has been the regular jockey on Tregea's good sprinter Love Rocks but missed the winning ride when the gelding returned to racing on Saturday.

Tregea instead used apprentice James Orman's claim to reduce the weight given to Love Rocks for his Doomben return.

Ready Reply, who is out of Tregea's five-time winner Answer Me, is not in the same class as Love Rocks but Tregea hopes she can eventually win in Saturday grade.

Meanwhile, apprentice Rikki Jamieson showed the benefit of her recent experience in Melbourne to claim the Optus Handicap (1350m) aboard Get On.

Jamieson had several rides during the early part of the Melbourne spring carnival including Lucky Tom in the Caulfield Guineas.
