Queensland jockey critical after fall

Monday 13 October 2014, 3:29pm

Queensland jockey Carly-Mae Pye remains in a critical condition in Rockhampton Base Hospital following a trackwork fall on Monday.

Pye, 26, was riding a horse in a trial at Callaghan Park when it appeared to break down and she was thrown to the track, suffering severe chest and head injuries.

Paramedics provided treatment at the track before transporting her to hospital where she is in the Intensive Care Unit.

A spokesperson for the Rockhampton Hospital said Pye remained in a critical condition late on Monday afternoon.

Racing Queensland chief executive Darren Condon said the thoughts of the racing community were with Carly-Mae and her family and requested their privacy be respected.

Counselling has been offered to those who witnessed the incident.

Pye has ridden about 200 winners mainly in central Queensland and has won races at Eagle Farm and the Sunshine Coast on central Queensland star Rocky King.
