Another O'Brien rides to victory

Monday 8 September 2014, 3:59pm

Donnacha O'Brien has become the latest member of the family to record a winner, registering his first victory on Quartz in a maiden at Dundalk.

The 16-year-old is the youngest child of champion trainer Aidan O'Brien and his wife Ann Marie.

Donnacha was completing the set for the O'Brien family as both his parents were accomplished amateur riders while the achievements of his siblings, champion jockey Joseph and sisters Sarah (amateur) and Ana (apprentice), have been well-documented.

Having the 17th ride of his fledgling career, he rode the 4-6 favourite for his father.

"I'm delighted he's got his first winner," Aidan O'Brien said.

"He's only 16, and had a fall at Wexford on only his third ride and he was very lucky thank God. But it didn't affect him at all."
