Sea The Moon warms up for Arc in Germany

Saturday 6 September 2014, 7:03am

Sea The Moon puts his position as Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe favourite on the line when he runs at Baden-Baden.

The Markus Klug-trained colt is unbeaten in four career starts and takes the next step to possible European dominance in Sunday's Group One Grosser Preis Von Baden.

Among his opposition will be Melbourne Cup hopefuls Terrubi, Lucky Speed and Sirius.

Sea The Moon sprang to prominence when he won the German Derby by 11 lengths and the second horse, Lucky Lion, came out and beat Noble Mission at Munich.

However, Klug has warned the big day for his runner will be at Longchamp on October 5, and he expects improvement after the weekend.

"He is in good form. He is not quite 100 per cent, but we want him to be 100 per cent in October, not now," Klug said.

Owner Niko Lafrentz has such a high opinion of the son of Sea The Stars he is already fending off potential buyers.

"He will not leave Europe as a racehorse or as a stallion. The only flying Sea The Moon will do is on the racecourse!," he told www.GermanRacingReview.com:

"There will be no partners involved in Sea The Moon during his racing career.

"We will decide on his stallion career at the end of next year. However, no more than 49 per cent of him will be available for syndication.

"He will stand in Europe and he will not be available to shuttle to Australia. He can cover southern hemisphere mares but they will need to come to him.

"He is not my horse, he is our family's horse and it is important to remember this. We want him to remain in Europe so everyone here can enjoy him."
