Frustrated Hill keeps Teronado for Doomben

Sydney's wet weather continues to thwart spring plans for Queensland four-year-old Teronado.

The Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate hopeful was nominated to race in Sydney on Saturday but will dodge an expected soft track at Randwick to run at Doomben.

Trainer Bruce Hill had wanted to use Sydney for Teronado's second run this preparation to get a guide on the galloper's prospects in Melbourne next month.

Instead, Teronado looks well placed in the Madison Cleaning and Painting Services Handicap (1600m) with 54.5kg.

Hill said Teronado had thrived since his first-up second to You Did What at Eagle Farm on August 20.

"A few people said to me how well he looked when he was first up. Well, you will see a horse that looks even better on Saturday," Hill said.

"I was very keen to get to Sydney but we will have to dodge wet tracks he just doesn't handle them."

Teronado is $67 for the Caulfield Cup and $101 for the Cox Plate.

But Hill is not sure if Teronado is a genuine stayer.

During a Sydney autumn campaign, Teronado was placed over 2000m in the Rosehill Guineas before failing on a bog track in the ATC Australian Derby.

Chris Munce, who is one of a handful of riders to have completed the big-race quadrella of the Melbourne Cup, Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Golden Slipper, will ride Teronado on Saturday.

Munce is keen to maintain his association with Teronado through the spring.

Meanwhile, Jim Byrne will ride Hill's handy mare Kalandula in the Uniform Management Handicap (1200m).

Kalandula was ridden by Hill's apprentice Matthew McGuren in two of her three wins since a spell.

"Matt has been riding very well but he can't make her weight. Jim rode her to win at Ipswich at her first run this time in and he also knows her," Hill said.
