Idle Chat swamps them to win the Sir James Kirby Quality feature Sprint at Grafton

Friday 11 July 2014, 11:03am

If you didn’t see it, it’s incredibly difficult to describe what a magnificent win it was by IDLE CHAT in the time honoured feature sprint the Sir James Kirby Quality at the Grafton carnival.

At the 600m IDLE CHAT was a clear last, at least 10 lengths off the leaders. As they swung for home she was still that distance away one off the fence. From the 400m to the 300m, our top jockey TIM CLARK steered her across 2 sets of heels, to become the widest runner 6 deep and spotting the leaders 6 lengths at the 250m.

Tim balanced IDLE CHAT and then pushed the go button. She literally flew. IDLE CHAT was so far back and the favourite Texan Lad was leading in a two horse dog fight up front with Terra Amarta thatIDLE CHAT was only mentioned in the call over last 30 metres before the post.

She finished with such momentum that she ended up putting up a margin of a neck on the line over the runner-up with a half-length back to third.
Amazingly they stopped the clock in an incredibly slick 56.28 secs, this is the second fastest time recorded at Grafton coming home their last 600m in a sizzling 33.56 secs. With a conversion in time of approximately 7 lengths per second, that calculates out that IDLE CHAT would have run under 32.50 her last 600m.

The fastest ever sectional time over any race distance for the last 600m recorded at Grafton is 33.38 secs. There is no question that IDLE CHAT smashed that sectional. Now here are the stats that will be just amazing for all racing enthusiasts to comprehend.

Since the 1999-2000 Racing Season until this race, there had been 113 races run where there were 11 runners in the field over this 1000m distance.

IDLE CHAT is the FIRST HORSE to win from 11th position (last) at the 400m in 14 racing seasons. In field sizes where there were field sizes of 10 - 11 – 12 – 13 or 14 runners, there have been a total of 402 races run. IDLE CHAT became just the third horse in 14 racing seasons to have come from last place at the 400m point to win over the 1000m trip!

One winner was in a field of 10 and the other winner was in a field of 12.

IDLE CHAT is building a huge resume and she is yet to win a race in the city ! She has been placed to advantage and has returned the owners a lot of fun and excitement let alone prizemoney.

Race Record: 11 Starts = 5 Wins : 3 Seconds : 0 Thirds  and Prizemoney: $125,067

Min/Max-Dist-Win: 900/1200 1st Up: 3:2-1-0 2nd Up: 3:1-0-0 Dist: 2:2-0-0

Good: 7:2-3-0    Dead: 1:1-0-0    Slow: 2:1-0-0    Heavy: 1:1-0-0

Included amongst these wins are 2 Feature Country wins:

Port Macquarie $50,500 Queen Of The North Quality Hcp 1200m

Grafton $50,000 Sir James Kirby Quality Hcp 1000m

She has also recorded wins at Gosford (2) and Newcastle.

IDLE CHAT has also run second at Randwick to Commanding Wit and second at Canterbury to Stolen Kisses.

IDLE CHAT has just changed stables in the past few weeks and was sent to quality horseman MATT DUNN who is based at Murwillimbah. Matt is placed third on the Brisbane premiership. This excellent young horseman has outstanding facilities at his training complex and horses thrive in the environment under his care.

It was terrific to learn that IDLE CHAT was Matty’s first winner at a Grafton Carnival meeting.

Placed to advantage in the upcoming preparation, she should enjoy racing in Brisbane, especially considering she is still eligible for Class 5 and incredibly is a Non Metropolitan Winner !

Congrats to IDLE CHAT’S team of owners who are:

Dynamic Syndications Racing (Mgr: D W Watt), N D Loader, G Harvey, M D Faria, B Tolentino, D R Noyes, Dynamic No 14 (Mgr: D W Watt D Ferguson, D Penrose) & A Turnbull.

Originally trained in Sydney, IDLE CHAT was "expelled from the Sydney stable" being considered "too slow and not good enough." That was before she had raced.

It’s amazing how things can turn around with horses and importantly highlights why we always obtain a second opinion and give Dynamic Syndications managed horses every opportunity to succeed.
