Panther on the prowl in France

Thursday 10 July 2014, 9:47am

Brown Panther is scheduled to go to France on Sunday in search of the second Group Two success of his career.

Connections of the stayer, eighth in last year's Melbourne Cup, intend to take the six-year-old to Longchamp for the Prix Maurice de Nieuil over a mile and three-quarters (2800m).

Should all go well in Paris then Brown Panther could take up one of his engagements shortly afterwards on home soil.

He holds entries in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes on July 26 and the Artemis Goodwood Cup at Goodwood the following Thursday in which he recorded his first Group Two success last summer.

Trainer Tom Dascombe reports his stable star to be in top form and ready for a return to action following his fine effort in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot where he was fourth to Leading Light.

"He's fresh and well. It looks a good opportunity, soft ground over a mile and six, so we thought we'd give it a go," Dascombe said.

"Then we've got two weeks to the King George and three weeks to the Goodwood Cup, so we've got plenty of time to go for one of those as well."

A decision on whether Brown Panther, who is owned by former England striker Michael Owen, travels to Australian again will be made later in his campaign.
