Dissident ramps up Cox Plate preparation

Tuesday 8 July 2014, 4:34pm

Randwick Guineas winner Dissident is ready to step up his training as he progresses towards the Cox Plate in October.

Trainer Peter Moody sent Dissident to spell in Queensland after his unplaced run in the Group One Doncaster Mile at Randwick in April and the rising four-year-old has pleased the trainer.

Dissident spelled before beginning his pre-training at Washpool Lodge, an hour's drive from Brisbane, where Moody also sent Black Caviar during her career.

Group One Queensland Derby winner Sonntag is also spelling at Washpool Lodge as is the talented Mick Price-trained colt Pressing.

Moody says Dissident has pleased him with his progress and has settled into his work well at Eagle Farm.

"He's finished his evens phase and he's ready to have a working gallop," Moody said.

"We'll just play it by ear and we might even give him a trial up there."

Moody has planned Dissident's campaign towards the weight-for-age championship on October 25 with races in either Sydney or Melbourne possible targets for the Sebring entire.

Dissident has another of Sebring's progeny with him in Brisbane with Golden Slipper placegetter Bring Me The Maid working towards next season's three-year-old fillies' features.

Moody said Bring Me The Maid is slightly behind her stablemate in her work but has also pleased him with her improvement since beginning her preparation.

"She's coming along well but she's got another week of evens before she starts having a gallop," Moody said.

"What path I go with her I'm not sure. There's the fillies' series in Sydney, the Golden Rose or the Melbourne series. I think she'll become a really strong miler next season."
