Press Report sizzles in barrier trial win

Monday 7 July 2014, 6:16pm

Press Report's five-length barrier trial win on Monday has reinforced her trainer's belief she will be a force in Group One races this spring.

Lee Curtis said he was thrilled with her performance, not just because she won but because she showed a new maturity.

"It was unbelievable to watch her in the trial," Curtis said.

"She jumped and ran and seems to have put it all together in her head.

"A couple of times early on she missed the start but there was none of that today.

"There are exciting days ahead.

The filly will make an early return in a race for two-year-olds on Saturday week with the $1 million Golden Rose her target.

Press Report ran second to Mossfun in the Group Two Silver Slipper in March but after missing a place in the first three in her next two stakes races, Curtis and her owners decided not to pay a late entry for the Golden Slipper.

While Press Report was resting Mossfun won the Slipper, confirming the faith Curtis has in his stable's filly.

"The plan is to run her at Rosehill on Saturday week then go to the Rosebud, the Silver Shadow and the Golden Rose which will be her fourth run in."

Because she was not among the original Slipper entries, connections also had to pay a late entry to the $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) on September 13.

"We paid that a few weeks ago and have paid the next instalment which is due this week," Curtis said.

"If she goes as well as I think she will then she could go to the Flight Stakes over 1600 metres after the Golden Rose.
