Weather suits Tickertape at Canterbury

Craig Carmody has a dilemma over where to race Single this weekend but no such concerns about Tickertape who goes to Canterbury on the back of a wet track win.

The prospect of further rain in Sydney has prompted the trainer to enter Single for a 1400m race at Flemington on Saturday as well as a similar event at Rosehill.

Single has won six races and been placed three times but his record on tracks worse than dead is none for three.

Tickertape is the opposite with his introduction to wet track racing at Hawkesbury last week producing a break-through win at his 13th start, leading Carmody to back the three-year-old up in Wednesday's 1100m event at Canterbury.

"The weather will determine where Single goes," Carmody said.

"I see they are also predicting showers in Melbourne. If we decide to go to Melbourne he doesn't have to leave until Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

"I'll just have to see how it is up here and how it's playing down there.

"But Tickertape loves the wet and he will definitely run. He's done well since he won at Hawkesbury so we thought we would give him a go in town."

Tickertape is owned by his breeder, former Australian Turf Club chairman John Cornish who sent his mare Heart Strings to More Than Ready.

"John always suggested he would race well on a really wet track," Carmody said.

"He had a frustrating run when he was going well but coming up empty so it was good to see him finally get a win."

Carmody is also pleased to have stakes winning filly Everage back in the stable after she went through last month's Magic Millions broodmare sale, fetching $155,000.

"Gerry Harvey bought her and kindly sent her back to me so she should be ready to run again in a couple of weeks," Carmody said.

All three of Everage's wins including the 2013 Listed Keith Mackay, have been on heavy tracks.
