Cirrus Des Aigles lame after Cup win

Sunday 8 June 2014, 9:56am

French star Cirrus Des Aigles has caused concern after pulling up lame following his victory in the Coronation Cup.

The globetrotting eight-year-old was quickly dismounted by Christophe Soumillon after passing the line in the mile-and-a-half (2400m) showpiece, having beaten Flintshire to record his sixth Group One success and his 21st career victory.

He was eventually able to walk back to the winner's enclosure to receive the applause of the crowd, and was seemingly moving better with trainer Corine Barande-Barbe happier with his condition.

The gelding was assessed by veterinary surgeons and was due to be monitored further before travelling back to France.

"He was a a bit lame on passing the post but is a bit better now, nothing really serious has happened but you don't like to see it when a horse is lame," Barande-Barbe said.

"When you touch it you can see nothing, neither can the vet. Maybe he missed a step, I don't know. I'm not really worried but I prefer to be able to say tomorrow that he is OK.

"In the morning if he has a little hole (in his tendon) I will be able to tell when I touch it, he doesn't show it now."
