Halle caps Price's dream day at Caulfield

Saturday 12 April 2014, 6:02pm

MELBOURNE April 12 AAP - Mick Price's brilliant day only improved when Halle Rocks scored at Caulfield.

Lankan Rupee had just dismantled Australia's best sprinters in Saturday's TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick before Halle Rocks came from well back to win the Cath White Memorial Handicap (1200m) at Caulfield.

Price had prepared Pressing to win earlier in the Caulfield meeting, while the trainer also won the Listed HC Nitchske Stakes in Adelaide with Tango's Daughter.

Halle Rocks ($21) had tried her luck in stakes company last start but found racing on her home track more to her liking.

Apprentice Jamie Kah brought the Fastnet Rock mare with a strong late run to score by a neck, taking the young jockey within one of the remarkable achievement of outriding her claim.

"She worked very well in her work on Tuesday, but she's had her problems so I wasn't sure how she'd go," Kah said.

Price's stable foreman Mick Nolan said a succession of problems had hampered Halle Rocks, but her impressive pedigree made it worth persevering with the five-year-old.

"The owners have been very patient with her," Nolan said.

"They have been very close to getting black type with her, but it's great for them to get a city win."

Nolan added Kah's handling of the sprinter played a significant role in Halle Rocks's sixth win from 21 starts.

The $2.45 favourite Elite Elle led for most of the race before dead-heating for second with the Peter Moody-trained Kneeling ($8).
