Parr tactics praised in Soros Farm win

Saturday 10 November 2012, 4:32pm

Josh Parr's initiative made the difference on Soros as the Melbourne-trained galloper scored a resounding win at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Parr took matters into his own hands in the MeadowLea Mile (1600m), sending Soros to the front after receiving open-ended instructions from trainer Peter Moody.

"We told Josh, depending on how the horse jumped, the horse is versatile so either ride him forward or back," Moody's Sydney stable representative Claire Cunningham said.

"And even when he did go for the back running he was stuck three wide ... so he took the initiative and took on the pace and it paid off."

The move saw the $2.50 favourite win by 1-1/4 lengths ahead of Purrfect ($17) with another three-quarters-of-a length to I Think I Do ($11) in third.

Cunningham said Soros would continue to go up in grade as well as distance.

"We're not sure if he'll stay in NSW or head back to Victoria," she said.

"He's very happy here and he's been running well for us, so I'd be happy to keep him here."

Parr said Soros had kept improving since his two starts from a break.

"He's a real progressive type ... he's still learning," Parr said.

"He's not quite there mentally but each time I've sat on his back he's impressed me that little bit more."
