Boom brothers chasing Group One wins

As he chases Group One wins with the Boom brothers, Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan is also chasing the weather.

Spirit Of Boom begins his quest for a Group One win in Saturday's Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield while Gollan is monitoring Sydney's forecast for his elder half brother Temple Of Boom.

In-form jockey Damien Oliver rides Spirit Of Boom in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and plans are to push on to the Newmarket Handicap.

Gollan admits he spends a lot of time looking at the long range weather forecasts when plotting the pair's autumn carnivals.

"Funny thing is they are brothers but I want dry tracks for Spirit of Boom and I will have to chase wet tracks for Temple of Boom," Gollan said.

Temple Of Boom, who is already a Group One winner of the 2012 Galaxy, will have a jump-out with star galloper Buffering at Doomben on Thursday.

"I would like to give him a start in Brisbane after that and press on to the Challenge Stakes (at Randwick on March 15)," Gollan said.

"But the tracks are the worry. The surfaces in Brisbane are rock hard but at least they have had some rain in Sydney."

Between the two horses they have won 17 races and $2.6 million prize money.

Gollan believes Temple Of Boom gets his liking for wet tracks from his sire Piccolo as the whole breed, even in Europe, are mudlarks.

The brothers' younger sister Just the Spirit is in a maiden at Doomben on Wednesday.

She is by Red Dazzler who is based at Eureka Stud which also races Temple of Boom and Spirit of Boom.

"I will be happy to win a metropolitan maiden with her. It will increase her already high value as a broodmare," Gollan said.
