Jakkalberry chasing Dubai Gold

Tuesday 21 January 2014, 9:44am

Jakkalberry is ready to jet out to Dubai after making a victorious return from a tendon injury which kept him off the scene for almost a year.

The 2012 Melbourne Cup third placegetter won a race at Wolverhampton on Friday by a comfortable three lengths.

The Group Three Nad Al Sheba Trophy on March 1 is a possibility, while a defence of the Group Two City Of Gold seven days later is another option.

Trainer Marco Botti will then aim him at either the 12-furlong (2400m) Dubai Sheema Classic or the one-mile-six-furlong (2800m) Gold Cup.

"I was very pleased with his run. He's come out of the race well and obviously the injury is under control, so it all seems to be going well," Botti said.

"We are aiming for the race at Meydan on March 1 over a mile and six furlongs and he will also be entered for Super Saturday (City Of Gold) and we will make a decision nearer the time on which race to go for.

"He had been nominated for World Cup night and has entries for the Sheema Classic and the Gold Cup. My preference would be for the Gold Cup at this stage.

"We haven't really planned any further than Dubai, but I presume he will come back to England. He's a horse that needs fast ground so we will see where we go.

"His owners are Australian so they may want him to go to Australia in the long term, but he's an eight-year-old so we need to make sure he stays sound and there's plenty of options."
