Star Witness relation odds-on for debut

Friday 17 January 2014, 5:15pm

Two-year-old colt Nostradamus is related to a Blue Diamond winner and could stamp himself as a genuine contender for next month's $1 million feature when he makes his debut at Flemington on Saturday.

Trained by the Hawkes family partnership, Nostradamus is a half-brother to 2010 Blue Diamond winner Star Witness and cost $500,000 at last year's Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney.

He is the odds-on favourite to make a winning start to his career in Saturday's Nursery Plate (1000m) and has firmed to fifth favourite at $13 with TAB fixed odds for next month's Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield.

The Hawkes team produced one Blue Diamond prospect last Saturday at Flemington when Bugatty scored over 1000m in his second race start.

He is at $31 for the Blue Diamond.
