Hearn celebrates Eagle Farm winner

Wednesday 15 January 2014, 3:25pm

BRISBANE Jan 16 AAP - Apprentice Alex Hearn celebrated his return from a successful stint in Perth with a runaway win on Simply Chanel at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

Hearn was rated one of Brisbane's best young provincial apprentices before he elected to get some interstate experience in West Australia.

"I rode 19 city winners in Perth but the chances dried up and I thought I would come back here to get more rides," Hearn said.

He is now apprenticed to trainer Chris Anderson at Eagle Farm and being able to ride at 51kg means he will get plenty of opportunities.

Simply Chanel ($4.20) won the Retro Racing Three Year old (1600m) by seven lengths.

"He jumped the front and they never looked like getting near him," Hearn said.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the racing experience scale champion jockey Damian Browne was in the winners list at his first ride back from suspension.

Browne was given a month's suspension for his winning ride on Buffering in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes in Perth in November.

At his first ride back from suspension on Boxing Day at Caloundra he was again sent out for an eight meeting stretch for causing interference.

Browne missed the Magic Millions carnival but showed all of his skill to land Marvo ($3.30) on Wednesday.

Marvo's trainer Stu Kendrick summed it up when he said: "That was a perfect ride. That's why he is one of the best."
