Trainer hopes Oisin can do his magic

Tuesday 14 January 2014, 5:27pm

Trainer Clint Marshall is hoping in-form Irish visitor Oisin Murphy can repeat his winning style on lightly-raced Vixen Hustler when the pair team up at Caulfield.

Leading apprentice Chad Schofield was originally booked to ride the six-year-old mare after their win in the George Hanlon Handicap at Geelong on January 2.

But his impending appeal against a careless riding suspension, which subsequently failed, was enough for Marshall to seek for another rider and he looked no further than Murphy after his winning ride on Cadel's Gold at the Geelong meeting when she came from the back of the field.

It was one of two wins for Murphy on the day.

"I was really impressed with that ride and it's a style that suits Vixen Hustler," Marshall said.

He said Vixen Hustler, with no gate speed, races in the same manner relying on her pace to come from the rear of the field.

"Oisin can ride horses on their merit and they seem to want to run for him," he said.

Murphy will remain in Australia until the middle of next month.

Marshall has only had Vixen Murphy for five months after the owner thought she needed a sea change following a career spent with trainer Greg Eurell at Cranbourne.

In that time she has raced three times, for her win at Geelong and a second at Bendigo.

"I think she is on her way up and this will be a perfect opportunity to test her out," Marshall said.
