Fiorente to step out in barrier trial

Monday 13 January 2014, 4:45pm

Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente heads a stellar line-up of autumn contenders in this week's Randwick barrier trials.

Fiorente and his Gai Waterhouse-trained stablemate Carlton House will run in the same 1200m heat on Thursday.

Waterhouse plans to send Fiorente to Melbourne to begin his autumn campaign which is expected to include the Australian Cup in March before he returns to Sydney.

Carlton House, who is owned by the Queen, had a gallop at Warwick Farm on Saturday in which he was shaded by three-year-old stablemate Bull Point who hasn't been to the races since his third to Zoustar in the Group One Golden Rose in September.

The Chris Waller-trained Zoustar is entered in a 740m trial ahead of a campaign which is scheduled to include the $2.5 million Group One TJ Smith Stakes before a possible trip to Royal Ascot.

The colt established himself as the country's superior three-year-old sprinter with victory in the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington in November.

That win confirmed his worth at $20 million and he will do his future racing in the colours of Widden Stud.

Waller's new acquisition, Queensland Group One winner Sizzling, is also listed to trial at Randwick over 740m.

The Bart and James Cummings-trained Eurozone is down for two trials - one over 1050m and the other 740m.

The winner of four of his six starts including the Group Two Stan Fox Stakes, Eurozone missed the Caulfield Guineas in favour of a good spell before an autumn campaign aimed at the Randwick Guineas and Doncaster Mile.

Among the two-year-olds on show is the Waterhouse-trained Breeders' Plate winner Law who will be aimed at the Golden Slipper.

The colt's Breeders' Plate win was the first stakes victory for his sire Denman, a Group One winning son of Lonhro.
