Epsom rematch likely in Emirates

Saturday 26 October 2013, 5:13pm

An Epsom Handicap replay between two of Australia's best "milers" is on the cards for the final day of the Flemington carnival following Toydini's win in the Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley.

Toydini finished a close third to Boban in the Epsom earlier this month and will now go to the Group One Emirates Stakes (1600m) on the final day of the Flemington carnival.

"We'd be keen for a rematch with Boban," said Toydini's trainer Guy Walter.

Toydini went up 4.5kg on his Epsom weight under Saturday's weight-for-age conditions and is likely to carry a similar weight when back to handicap conditions in the Emirates.

But Walter isn't too bothered.

"He's relatively inexperienced, so there's room for improvement," he said.

"And on a bigger track at Flemington he'll be better suited."

Toydini, which started favourite at $3.30, sustained a long run around the field to join the lead soon after straightening, only to be outsprinted by runner up Speediness ($5) inside the 100m.

But Blake Shinn encouraged another effort from Toydini, which grabbed Speediness on the line to score by a short head.

Sacred Falls ($6) took third a short neck further back.

The win drew an emotional response from Shinn.

"I love this horse, love the trainer, love Guy's wife Wendy," he said.

Shinn also praised a horse he says deserves a Group One win.

"I lost a bit of momentum on the turn because we were so wide, but he toughed it out. He's got a great will to win," he said.
