Victorian trainer Stephen Theodore has celebrated country Cups wins less than 20 minutes apart at Benalla and Bairnsdale on Sunday.

Road Trippin' led all the way to win the Bairnsdale Cup (1600m) before Flying Hussler was even more impressive in a stronger field with an all-the-way victory in the 2046m Benalla feature.

Theodore chose Benalla as the place to be where Flying Hussler set up a huge lead mid-race under Craig Newitt and held off veteran stayer Precedence by five lengths.

"It's unbelievable," Theodore told TVN.

"We are just a small stable and don't get that many opportunities.

"To have two horses going as good as these are at the moment is wonderful."

Theodore said Flying Hussler could back up in next week's Cranbourne Cup on his home track.

"He might have earned a run in the Cranbourne Cup," he said.

"He has amazing powers of recovery."

Newitt said Flying Hussler was never in trouble.

"He was airborne," he said.

"The race came up stronger than we anticipated but when I asked, he was there for me.

"He savaged the line really well."

Road Trippin' didn't have things quite so easy in a tight finish but with Peter Mertens working hard, he staved off the challenge from Pro Tour to win by a head.
