Trainer Joe Pride has sounded a warning ahead of Tiger Tees' Melbourne debut at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

But it's not the type of warning punters might be expecting.

"I've instructed no-one to smoke near him because he's ready to explode," Pride said.

"He's dynamite at the moment."

Tiger Tees will be one of eight runners in the Group Two Moir Stakes (1200m), one of four features on the card.

He was due to travel down from Sydney on Wednesday night and the forecast for rain in Melbourne on Friday poses no dilemmas for the gelding who has won four of his seven starts on rain-affected tracks.

While the race will be his first in the left-handed direction, Pride isn't overly concerned about him handling it.

"I'm reasonably confident he'll handle the track because of how tractable he is and how easily he's handled different tracks in the past," he said.

"Nothing seems to bother him that way."

Tiger Tees has a striking record with nine wins from 13 starts.

But perhaps none was more impressive than his first-up performance in the Concorde Stakes (1100m) at Warwick Farm where he streeted a smart field including his Group One placed stablemate Rain Affair by three lengths.

The victory didn't shock Pride but the ease of it did and he hopes it's a sign the five-year-old is in for his best preparation yet.

"He's never struck me as a horse who would blow a field away," Pride said.

"He's always been a real tradesman but he gave them a touch-up. It didn't surprise me to see him win but the manner in which he did it surprised me.

"You can only hope these Group horses rise up to a new level this preparation.

"He's only had 13 starts so it's reasonable to think his best is still ahead."

Tiger Tees ($3.50) will be partnered by Corey Brown and has barrier six while Queenslander Buffering, the $2.70 favourite with TAB fixed odds opening market, has gate two.
