Schweida lauds rising star Secret Harmony

Saturday 6 July 2013, 1:08pm

Kelly Schweida is a reserved trainer when rating his horses but he doesn't hide his admiration for Secret Harmony.

After the son of Hotel Grand won the Saturday's AIW Printlink Handicap (1500m) at Eagle Farm, Schweida declared him one of the best horses in his stable.

"He's a star," Schweida said.

"When you ask him to do something he doesn't improve a length, he improves six lengths.

"I said to the owner before the race I put him in the top five horses I've got in the stable."

Jockey Ric McMahon said Secret Harmony has improved dramatically since his first start at Ipswich in May.

"He was like a lunatic that day and you'd swear he hadn't been broken in because he did everything wrong," McMahon said.

"But his last two starts he's begun to get his act together and when he gets over a trip he'll be even better."

McMahon said Secret Harmony was coasting until the home turn when his competitive nature kicked in.

"Another horse came up to eyeball him but once I let him have a bit of rein he grabbed the bit and charged away from them," he said.

Schweida will give Secret Harmony one more start this campaign before the gelding is spelled.
