Skye Bogenhuber returns a winner

Sunday 20 October 2019, 1:48pm

Queensland jockey Skye Bogenhuber has made a successful return to race riding but she says just being back at the races is reward enough.

Bogenhuber has been out of race riding for seven months after being injured in a trackwork fall at Toowoomba on March 2.

She underwent intensive rehabilitation and was allowed to ride trackwork last month before getting the all clear to take limited race rides this week.

Bogenhuber rode The Irons to third place at Ipswich on Friday and then had three rides at Toowoomba on Saturday, winning on Je Suis Belle.

"At one stage I was fearful I would never ride again but I have had a lot of support to get back and I am just looking forward now," she said.

Fellow jockey Tegan Harrison faces an extended stay on the sidelines after a fall at Doomben two weeks ago.

Harrison suffered back fractures, a fractured sternum and ribs but the most serious problem has been a recurrence of a collarbone injury she suffered two years ago.

She expects to undergo surgery on the collarbone this week and will miss at least three months riding.

Stewards are yet to announce a date for an inquiry into the four horse-fall in which the other three riders escaped serious injury.
