Gai chases Slipper hat-trick with 95 noms

Thursday 4 July 2013, 4:59pm

The stable which has produced the past two Golden Slipper winners is already well positioned to claim a hat-trick after confirming almost 100 nominations for the 2014 race.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse has entered 95 new-season juveniles who will be out to emulate the recent wins of Tulloch Lodge stars Pierro and Overreach.

They are among 1598 horses nominated for the world's richest two-year-old race - down 91 on the 2013 entry.

Victorian trainer David Hayes has entered 85 youngsters and Caulfield's Mick Price has 71.

Trainer Chris Waller has 41 entered from his premier Sydney stable while his Melbourne counterpart Peter Moody has paid up for 56.

Confirming its standing as a global racing powerhouse, Darley Australia has nominated 155 horses, easily the largest entry by a single entity.

Fastnet Rock tops the sires' list with 86 nominations, including the $4 million colt from the Hawkes Racing stable.

Black Caviar's half-brother, sold for $5 million at the Sydney Easter yearling sale, is one of 44 horses by super sire Redoute's Choice among the entries.

Exceed And Excel, the sire of Overreach, is represented by 32 nominations.

Snitzel has 56 entries while all-conquering first-season sire Northern Meteor has 52 nominations.

The $3.25 million Golden Slipper will be run at Rosehill on April 5.
