Singapore star Super Easy runs last race

Tuesday 2 July 2013, 4:06pm

Singapore racing has lost one of its biggest stars with the retirement of Super Easy.

A headline horse for Michael Freedman, Super Easy broke down in his Group One Patron's Bowl win at Kranji on Sunday.

Scans and X-rays revealed the 2012 Singapore horse of the year had ruptured a suspensory ligament.

"At least he is retiring on a high note, but it was still not an easy decision to make," Freedman said on the Singapore Turf Club website.

"We were just celebrating his latest win and weighing up plans for the Singapore Derby, but this has been a bolt out of the blue."

Super Easy had one win in three New Zealand outings for John Sargent before dominating Singapore racing.

He will retire with 15 wins from 23 starts and has been instrumental in Freedman's rise since his move to Singapore from Australia.

"He's been a big part of my training career here in Singapore. He owes me nothing, I owe him a lot," Freedman said.

As a son of leading New Zealand sire Darci Brahma, Freedman hopes there is a stud deal imminent for Super Easy.
