Tough task for Slipper winner in Toy Show

Friday 23 August 2019, 3:55pm

James Cummings readily admits Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi will be vulnerable when she takes on older mares for the first time in the Toy Show Quality at Randwick.

The only filly in the field, Kiamichi will carry 55kg and concede weight to all bar two of her 13 more experienced rivals, who include topweight and dual Group winner Alassio and classy mare Mizzy.

Cummings said Kiamichi had returned to work in good order but faced a tough ask at her first run as a three-year-old under the conditions of Saturday's Group Three race.

"Kiamichi is by no means at her best first-up and it would require no small feat to get up and beat the older mares so early in the spring," Cummings said.

"She's impressed us in her preliminaries and will catch a lot of attention as a Slipper winner resuming.

"However, we don't expect her to have her preferred soft ground, but I appreciate that this filly is capable of improving into her campaign."

Kiamichi relished heavily rain-affected tracks in the autumn to win the Magic Night Stakes and the Slipper before a brave third to stablemate Microphone in the Group One Sires' Produce Stakes on a slow surface.

Randwick has been rated in the good range for Saturday with no rain forecast.
