Day Procedure back for more Valley success

Monday 24 June 2013, 3:29pm

Three-year-old Day Procedure gets the chance to build on his solid Moonee Valley statistics when he resumes from a let-up on Saturday.

The Robert Smerdon-trained gelding runs in the 1000m Handicap against his own age having already proven his suitability to short course racing at Moonee Valley.

In four starts at the track Day Procedure has won twice.

In another race he finished second to subsequent Group One Newmarket Handicap winner Shamexpress who competed in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot last week.

"He's had a short freshen-up and I don't know what the track condition is going to be but he likes Moonee Valley and he is effective over the 1000 metres," Smerdon said.

"He won a 955 metre race there and also a 1000 metre race there so it's a good surface for him and he'll have the benefit of Jackie Beriman's three kilo claim."

Beriman has ridden Day Procedure in the sprinter's past seven starts, including his two Moonee Valley wins.

The Moonee Valley meeting has 258 nominations across the eight races with the $80,000 Travis Harrison Cup (1600m) for apprentice riders attracting 34 entries.

The race is named in honour of leading Victorian apprentice Harrison who died in a car accident in 1996.

Nominations for the 3YO Fillies Handicap (1200m) include the Geoff Wheeler-trained She Can Skate who has won her only two starts this campaign including the Listed Creswick Stakes at Flemington on June 8.

Stakes winner Elite Elle is dual nominated and has been given 61.5kg for the 1200m fillies race and 60kg in the 1000m open three-year-old event.

The Super Vobis 2YO Handicap (1000m) could feature the debut of Hay List's full-brother Hay One who is among 35 nominations.

Hay One is trained by Stephen Brown at Flemington.
