Zoe White In successful return

Sunday 14 July 2019, 10:44am

Former star apprentice Zoe White has made a successful return to race riding with a winner at her first ride back at Toowoomba.

White was a boom country apprentice, riding 150 winners, when based in central Queensland.

She had little success when she tried her luck in Brisbane and eventually gave riding away after being injured in a fall.

Her last race ride before Saturday was in December but earlier this year she linked with the Chris Anderson/Robert Heathcote training partnership as a strapper and then apprentice.

She rode Sequablur to win for the stable on Saturday.

Anderson said the win was just reward for White's hard work.

While Queensland's metropolitan jockey and trainer premierships were virtually decided months ago, the title of leading city apprentice is still open.

Baylee Nothdurft leads the premiership on 29 from last season's top junior rider Jag Guthmann Chester on 26.

Nothdurft's effort has been outstanding as he did not ride a city winner until January when he got his full metropolitan licence.

Both rode winners during the week and with four city meetings remaining the title is set for an exciting finish.

"I am keen to win the title but it isn't over just yet," Nothdurft said.

The state apprentice title will go to Adin Thompson who has 62 winners after Saturday having been successful from Cairns to the Gold Coast this season.

The now-retired Jeff Lloyd will win his fourth metropolitan jockeys' premiership and Tony Gollan the trainers' title.
