Ballarat synthetic track in early call-up

Friday 10 May 2019, 5:56pm

Racing on the new synthetic track at Ballarat will begin earlier than planned with officials announcing a scheduled turf meeting has been transferred because of wet weather.

The synthetic track was scheduled to host its first meeting next Friday but Racing Victoria has announced the transfer of Sunday's meeting.

RV said the track received 69mm of rain over the past 24 hours with the turf surface unsuitable for racing on Sunday.

"The decision means the new synthetic track at Ballarat will come into operation five days earlier than planned, with the official opening scheduled for Friday, 17 May," RV said.

All scratchings for Sunday's meeting have been reinstated and there have been distance changes for some of the races on the program.

Friday's turf meeting at Geelong was abandoned because of a rain-affected track and RV has announced that meeting will not be rescheduled.
