Princess Of Queens aimed at G1 Sangster

Sunday 28 April 2019, 4:24pm

Mick Price will rely on Princess Of Queens as his sole runner in his latest bid to add to his Group One tally.

Saturday's Sangster Stakes at Morphettville is one of two Group One races on the card and Price has three horses entered in the 1200m-race restricted to fillies and mares.

Price said three-year-olds Anjana and Persuader would line up on Saturday against their own age group in the Group Two Euclase Stakes over the same distance.

Princess Of Queens has not raced since taking out the Group Three Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in February.

She had earlier won the Listed Christmas Handicap over Saturday's course and distance in December.

Price said Princess Of Queens had done everything asked of her in preparation for her first-up run following a freshen-up, including running a close-up fifth in a Cranbourne 800m-barrier trial on April 23.

"She's had a nice freshen-up, she's trialled really well and she's had a nice gallop here (Caulfield)," Price said.

"She's got to graduate from the Group Three grade in the autumn so we'll ask it of her and see what happens.

"She's flying but she probably needs to pull her socks up a bit to win a Group One."

Fresh off a return treble at Morphettville on Saturday, now Melbourne-based Jamie Kah will ride the five-year-old on Saturday.

Price has won the Sangster previously with Bel Mer (2009) and Secret Agenda (2017).

Dual Group One-winning filly Sunlight heads the Sangster market at $2 with Sydney-trained mare Spright second elect at $6.

Princess Of Queens is currently a $51 chance.
