Key Doomben barrier trials abandoned

Monday 22 April 2019, 2:31pm

The Brisbane Racing Club hopes to hold jump-outs later in the week to help trainers after key barrier trials at Doomben were abandoned.

Tuesday's trials were to feature several top-line horses heading to the Brisbane winter carnival including the Stradbroke Handicap second favourite Zoustyle.

The unbeaten Zoustyle is set to run in the Group Three Gold Coast Guineas on Saturday week as the first start of his campaign.

The last two races at Doomben were washed out on Saturday and continued sporadic rain since meant officials had no choice but to abandon the trials.

Doomben course manager Jim Roberts said the A grass was as heavy as the course proper and more rain was expected.

"Once the weather clears we will hopefully run jump-outs so trainers can work their horses," he said.

Doomben has a three-week break until its next meeting on Doomben 10,000 day.

"It should give us every chance to get the track back to its best," Roberts said.
