Jackson Murphy to return at Ipswich

Tuesday 16 April 2019, 8:28am

Apprentice Jackson Murphy will return to race riding at Ipswich after a frustrating three months on the sidelines.

Murphy has not ridden since a fall at Doomben on December 29 when he injured a wrist.

The injury was originally thought to be relatively minor but has taken longer than expected to mend.

During his lay-off Murphy took time for a holiday and to catch up with relatives and friends interstate but he admits it has still been a frustrating time.

"I'll be taking rides from Wednesday after finally getting a clearance. I would like to thank everyone for their support while I have been out," he said.

Murphy was leading the apprentice riders premiership and was in the top 10 overall Brisbane riders before the injury.

He has three rides at Wednesday's Ipswich meeting.

Since he has been out of action Murphy has been overtaken by Jag Guthmann-Chester, Clayton Gallagher and Baylee Nothdurft in the junior ranks.

Fellow rider Skye Bogenhuber, who was knocked out in a trackwork fall last month, has been given some good news from her specialist and is now allowed to drive.

Bogenhuber will have a clearer picture when she can resume riding when she returns to the specialist in a fortnight after undergoing more tests.
