Microphone dominant in Talindert Stakes

Saturday 16 February 2019, 3:40pm

Microphone is likely to be switched to Sydney to continue his autumn campaign after the talented colt added yet another juvenile race win for the powerful Godolphin operation in the Talindert Stakes at Flemington.

Ninety minutes after stablemate Tenley stormed home to win the Pierro Plate for two-year-olds at Randwick, the James Cummings-trained Microphone ($4) surged clear in Saturday's Listed Talindert (1100m) under James McDonald to win by 2-1/4-lengths.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Talented ($5) led home the chasing pack while Charleise ($26) was another three quarters of a length away third.

Microphone has two Flemington wins from his three starts, along with a second in a Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield, and Cummings indicated the Group Two Skyline Stakes at Randwick in two weeks loomed as his likely next target.

Microphone is not among the nominations for next Saturday's $1.5 million Group One Blue Diamond (1200m) at Caulfield in which Cummings is set to run filly Athiri.

Godolphin also has fillies Blue Diamond Prelude winner Lyre, who is trained by Anthony Freedman, aimed at the Blue Diamond.

Godolphin's impressive crop of juveniles trained by Cummings includes Golden Slipper favourite Tassort and Magic Millions Classic winner Exhilarates, among others.

"We're privileged to have them," Cummings said.

"They're beautifully educated and they are getting to the races fit and happy horses.

"Microphone is no exception to that.

"I thought his win there was really quite promising. I love the way he kept driving to the line.

"He probably looks a horse really well suited to Sydney now. A race like the Skyline Stakes coming up in a couple of weeks looks quite ideal for him.

"I expect him to rate really well on that performance and he could comfortably go to six furlongs at Randwick and run really well."

Microphone firmed from $51 to $26 in the Golden Slipper market headed by Tassort ($4.50) and Exhilarates ($8).
