Williams suspended for whip breach on Yogi

Saturday 17 November 2018, 6:38pm

Breaching the whip rules aboard Sandown Cup winner Yogi has earned star jockey Craig Williams a seven-meeting suspension.

Williams was found to have used the whip 12 times before the 100m mark of Saturday's 3200m race on the Darren Weir-trained Yogi, seven times more than allowed.

Williams' suspension is due to start after next Saturday and he is free to return after the day meeting on Friday, November 30.

Ben Melham and Luke Currie were also suspended for seven meetings for careless riding but all three riders will not miss a Saturday fixture.

Melham's careless riding charge was from his ride on Tatiara in the Twilight Glow Stakes while Currie's suspension was incurred in the fourth race aboard Mahamedeis.
