Quartet of Cup hopefuls chase Bendigo Cup

A field of 15 has been declared for the Bendigo Cup as a quartet of Melbourne Cup hopefuls make a last-ditch attempt to gain a start.

Patrick Erin, Dal Harraild, Lord Fandango and Sir Charles Road are still in contention for the Melbourne Cup after second declarations were taken on Monday.

The four need to win and hopefully gain a penalty to sneak up the ballot order for the Melbourne Cup.

Early betting on Wednesday's Bendigo Cup however is dominated by the Darren Weir-trained Furrion who at $2.20.

Patrick Erin is second pick at $6 ahead of Lord Fandango at $7.

Dal Harraild ($8) and Sir Charles Road ($8.50) are next in the market.
