Blinkers experiment for Streama

Sunday 26 May 2013, 4:18pm

Dual Group One winner Streama will be fitted with blinkers in a barrier trial on Monday to determine whether she wears them in the Stradbroke Handicap.

Trainer Guy Walter said the mare had been wearing blinkers in trackwork and he would make a final decision on the gear change after the trial.

Streama has been overshadowed by stablemate Appearance this season but has shown glimpses of her best form with her third in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes and fourth in the Doncaster Mile.

Glen Boss, who rode her in the Doncaster, is scheduled to ride her in the Randwick trial to test her as a possible Stradbroke mount.

"She has worked well in the blinkers and we will make a decision after we see how she goes in the trial," Walter said.

"She has done well since the Doncaster so I'm hopeful she can get back to her best."

Stablemate Skyerush, the winner of three Group races this autumn, will also trial on Monday but is likely to miss the Stradbroke and wait for the Tatt's Tiara two weeks later.

"The mares' race has been her aim all along so we will probably stick to that and she is most unlikely for the Stradbroke," Walter said.

"She also seems to race well when she is a bit fresh."

Skyerush's best performance at Group One level so far is her close second to Pear Tart in last year's Tatt's Tiara, the final Group One race of the Australian racing season.

Weights for the Stradbroke will be announced on Monday.

Saturday's Doomben 10,000 winner Epaulette is the new favourite at $4.60 ahead of fellow three-year-olds Better Than Ready ($5.50) and Your Song ($7.50).

Stream is a $21 chance.
