Hot Snitzel back on track

Sunday 26 May 2013, 5:13pm

Hot Snitzel's stop-start Brisbane campaign is back on track with the talented sprinter to put a Stradbroke Handicap berth on the line on Saturday.

The multiple stakes winner was a late withdrawal from last week's BTC Sprint after a mishap in his box.

His failure in the Prime Minister's Cup on May 4 remains a mystery and trainer Gerald Ryan is looking for a few things to go right when he lines up in the QTC Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm.

"Before the BTC Sprint he kicked out and the toe clip of his shoe went into his foot," Ryan said.

"He is a smart horse but sometimes he does dumb things.

"He galloped well on Wednesday and again on Saturday so hopefully nothing goes wrong this time.

"Nash Rawiller will ride him and if he happened to win then we would seriously look at the Stradbroke."

The winner of the QTC Cup and the Queensland Guineas on Saturday are exempt from a ballot on Brisbane's richest race.

The Ryan-trained Dances On Stars runs in the Guineas but is unlikely to head to the Group One a week later.

Weights for the Stradbroke will be released on Monday. Rangirangdoo, who had to be euthanased after breaking down in Saturday's Doomben 10,000, will be taken out of the weights with Buffering now likely to be given the highest handicap of 58kg.

Doomben 10,000 winner Epaulette is now the Stradbroke favourite but his jockey Kerrin McEvoy said a predicted weight of between 56 and 57kg might cause a re-think.

McEvoy told Sky's Racing Retro he and trainer Peter Snowden had been hoping for between 54 and 55kg.

"Peter and I were talking about it and we thought 54-1/2 to 55 maybe," he said.

"We'd be happy with 54 and something, but 57 would be a bit tough I reckon."
