Sunlight in light work after Sydney hiccup

Thursday 13 September 2018, 5:29pm

Classy filly Sunlight is back under saddle but trainer Tony McEvoy won't be rushed in making a decision on her immediate racing future.

McEvoy was forced to abandon plans for a possible start in the Golden Rose at Rosehill on September 22 after the filly fell victim to an elevated temperature.

The Magic Millions winner was being prepared for the Run To The Rose at Rosehill last Saturday.

"She's back under saddle and her blood pictures have been excellent," McEvoy said.

"She only had the one day with a spiked temp and it's been normal since and she's now off all her treatment and back cantering up in Sydney."

McEvoy said he had not thought about a future racing program for Sunlight, preferring to get the filly back to Melbourne.

After a first-up second to Nature Strip in Adelaide, Sunlight returned to form with victory in the Quezette Stakes at Caulfield last month.

"I'll just canter her for a week, make sure she's fine and get her back to Melbourne," McEvoy said.

"After that I'll make a decision on whether she continues on in the spring or goes to the paddock."
