Plumbs out to make history at Gold Coast

Thursday 16 August 2018, 4:16pm

Siblings Ryan and Angela Plumb can write themselves into Queensland racing history if Sugar Sizzle wins at the Gold Coast.

Angela Plumb is building a name for herself as a trainer on the Gold Coast while Ryan Plumb was the leading jockey at the seaside track last season.

Ryan has ridden several winners for Angela but not at a metropolitan Saturday meeting with Sugar Sizzle to run in the wins the Oakwood Park 3YO Handicap (1400m).

The Gold Coast program on Saturday is metropolitan standard which means the Plumbs can be the first brother-sister to combine for a city win in Queensland.

There have been many examples of father-son, mother-son, father-daughter, mother-daughter and husband-wife combinations winning metropolitan races in Queensland.

But siblings competing together is rare.

The Plumbs come from one of the state's best-known racing families.

Their grandfather Lyle Plumb was a jockey and trainer as was their father Lyle junior.

Their uncle Myles was a champion apprentice who once rode five winners in a day at Randwick and later became an international trainer.

Sugar Sizzle, who is raced by an Aquis Farms syndicate, is a last-start Gatton winner.

"Our family has always been in racing and is very supportive," Angela Plumb said.

"Sugar Sizzle has been racing well and this looks a nice race for her."
