Tarzan to stay at home instead of Grafton

Sunday 8 July 2018, 12:44pm

Speedster Tarzan is likely to miss the James Kirby Quality at Grafton to tackle a race on his favoured home track of Caloundra.

Trainer Stuart Kendrick had planned to take Tarzan to Grafton on Thursday for the Kirby but was bemused when the gelding was given 61.5 kg.

"They haven't missed him at the weights. There is a 1000-metre race at Caloundra on Saturday worth more money," Kendrick said.

"We all know how good Tarzan is at Caloundra and at 1000 metres so it is very tempting."

Tarzan was second behind Ringo's A Rockstar at Caloundra two weeks ago which took his record at the track and distance to 11 starts for seven wins and three seconds.

"He was attacked by a lightly weighted horse for the lead so it was a very good effort," Kendrick said.

"I will have a look at the likely Caloundra race field after nominations and make up my mind. But at this stage we will probably stay home."

Tarzan holds the course record for 1000m at Caloundra at 56.1 seconds but is unlikely to get near that on Saturday with soft conditions already predicted.

Ringo's A Rockstar is also likely to be a rival again.
