Guineas a spring aim for Good 'n' Fast

Saturday 7 July 2018, 3:03pm

Trainer David Hayes rates Good 'n' Fast a Guineas contender for the spring after the colt capped his winter campaign with a stakes win in the Taj Rossi Series Final at Flemington.

Good 'n' Fast ($2.90 fav) edged clear of Scottish Rogue after a battle in the final 200m of Saturday's Listed 1600m race for two-year-olds, winning by a long head with Goldifox four lengths away third.

Hayes, who trains in partnership with his son Ben Hayes and nephew Tom Dabernig, plans to give Good 'n' Fast a freshen up before aiming towards the Caulfield Guineas.

Good 'n' Fast is a half-brother to multiple Group One placegetter Fast 'n' Rocking and made it two wins from three starts, having won over 1400m at the same track two weeks earlier.

"I really think he's a spring contender," Hayes said.

"Extra Zero finished second in this race (in 2009) and then nearly won the Victoria Derby in the spring, but I think this horse is more a Guineas type.

"We'll set him for the Guineas. He's pretty classy."
