Jackson Morris victory short-lived

Wednesday 4 July 2018, 6:03pm

Jackson Morris has briefly celebrated his first Sydney win for some years before having it taken away in the stewards' room at Canterbury and copping an 11-meeting suspension and $500 fine.

Morris, who has spent most of the past decade in Queensland, was first past the post on the Jim and Greg Lee-trained See The Show in Wednesday's 1100m handicap, a length in front of Unwise with Lost Command another head third.

When he returned to scale, Lost Command's rider Jay Ford asked what the margin was but officials indicated the incident before the home turn was already under scrutiny.

Steward Tom Moxon, who watched the race from the stewards' room, lodged the objection on behalf of Lost Command, alleging interference near the 500m.

"See The Show shifted out and checked Lost Command which lost in the vicinity of two lengths," Moxon told the hearing.

Jay Ford said he believed the incident had cost him two or three lengths and definitely cost him the win.

The protest was upheld with Unwise declared the winner from Lost Command with See The Show relegated to third.

Morris was outed until July 25.

Unwise's victory gave leading apprentice Rachel King a second win for the day as she chases the junior riders' premiership.

Rival Jean Van Overmeire won aboard Mad For Art to end the day 6-1/2 behind.
